A dedicated server is a single computer that runs a server operating system within a network that solely serves the needs of that server. With this, you can expect fast resolution to every problem that arises. Another matter is the operating system of the server. On a dedicated server, you have the option of choosing the kind of operating system it should be running. On a shared server, you will not only have to adjust to the operating system that already exists but you will also be limited to whatever permissions and administrative access the owner grants you. Last are location issues. Of course, servers are housed in data centres that have the most reliable hardware equipment in terms of ensuring continuous power supply. Also they have certified technicians that monitor your server around the clock. Unless you can afford all the expensive equipment that is needed and have a technical team of your own to support you, it would be best to simply rent your dedicated server.
A dedicated server is always going to be more costly than a shared server however there are providers that offer affordable prices for a cheap dedicated server and added services such as internet transit and Colocation Services.
